More time wasting conflicts today...
Microsoft Internet Explorer 9(IE9)is the default browser when you use QuickBooks online banking features. IE9 may conflict with your bank's export of your QuickBooks transaction file.
If this happens you to, log off of your online banking within QuickBooks. Choose another browser to access your bank's web site. Today I used Google Chrome successfully. Download your transactions as your normally would. Install by clicking on the downloaded file, or save the file and use Banking > Online Banking > Import Web Connect File. Then proceed to review transactions as you always do.

The core philosophy of The Bottom Line Bookkeeping Service has always been dedication to your success beginning with proper record keeping. The success of our clients across many different industries, from small business start-ups to franchised businesses, is proof that our methods work, and work well.

What's old is new again!
I'm so excited! I get to keep using my Palm Pilot! Through the advancements of new technology, I can continue to use my old technology. You see, I needed to upgrade my computer so I could run the newest release of QuickBooks 2012. My oldest machine in operation is 12 years old, and while it's been maintained and upgraded over the years, it's finally met it's limits. I love my new machine. My son custom builds and maintains all of my technology. This one is running a 6 core 3.3 GHz processor with 8 GB of RAM and a solid state hard drive (insert Tim's Allen's grunts here). The new machine also has Windows 7, and while most of my software runs just fine on Window's 7, my beloved Palm Plot does not.
Now, along comes this new thing called a Virtual Machine. Once this is installed you can install whatever operating system you want INSIDE of the main operating system. So, naturally I installed WinXP so I could use my old Palm Pilot. This afternoon I just ran my first sync and everything came through! Well, most everything, all the really important stuff loaded. Now I just have to spend a little time with the customizations that I like.
If you're like me and have technology that you rely on and want to keep using, give my son a call. Impact Technologies @ tc-geek.com and ask for Brad.

Technology
Because some small businesses no longer need employees, this means they no longer need to upgrade QuickBooks every 3 years to keep current with the payroll tax tables. If they don't need to upgrade their software, then their computers don't need upgraded just yet either. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Not a bad philosophy.
Ah.. but now here's the challenge. I have clients using QuickBooks versions from 2004 through 2012. I have to upgrade my computers to run the new version, and we can no longer buy WinXP Licenses, so I'm using Windows 7 now. But wait... QuickBooks 2007 and earlier only runs on WinXP, not on Win7.
So, Microsoft created a way to run a Virtual WinXP desktop within your Win7 operating system. Now all we need to do is to install the older software in the "Virtual" environment and Ta-Da! We can run old software on old operating systems on new computers.
That is... until you try to print anything from the old software.
Is it any wonder I'm back in college to earn a degree in Computer Information Technology? We never stop learning, and if anything the older we are the faster we need to learn.
And you thought bookkeeping was only about showing you your checkbook balance. ;)

State of Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (SUTA)
Seems they've been having some computer issues. People are receiving letters telling them that they owe for their last quarter unemployment taxes, this letter also includes interest and penalties.
What I've advised my clients to do is to go online and print a copy front and back of the tax payment check that cleared. Then call the state offices at the telephone number on the notice. They will make the correction in the system.
You can also print an extra copy of the cancelled check and mail that with the notice.
This is one way to help keep the US Postal service in the state of Michigan supported. :)
